PROGRAMME NOTES
The film’s appeal comes from opposing rhythms: one character wants precision, the other moves before thinking. Strong poses and clear silhouettes make those intentions readable. The apparent simplicity of the cartoon finish is a design choice; the shading breakdown in our workshop shows how much work goes into keeping a three-dimensional image this graphic. Pair it with Charge to see two radically different ways of animating machines.
A shading and rendering research breakdown. The graphic result is assembled from deliberate choices about light, colour and surface.
